Tutor:Rein Staal,Professor of Political Science An examination of modern western political philosophy from the sixteenth century through the end of the nineteenth century. Students will undertake an intensive study of the seminal works of such thinkers as Machiavelli, Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau,Marx, and Mill. An attempt will be made to understand their ideas within the broader context of the social, political, and economic institutions and beliefs of their respective societies. Students will also reflect on the relevance of those ideas for our time.
