Students will read and discuss various forms of historical writing among pagans and Christians in the Roman world fromthe first century BC to the fifth century AD. During this time historians recounted the past, sometimes according to traditional forms of historical writing, sometimes pioneering ways of conceptualizing the past completely at odds with the canons of earlier historical writing. Offered in alternate years.
