Students in this course will use an anthropological approach known as ethnomusicology to study the various ways in which people in several societies around the world create music in order to express themselves and their unique cultures. Students will be exposed to these musical traditions through readings, lectures and films, as well as through experiential learning in workshops with international musicians and by observing professional performers at live concerts throughout the term.
