A course designed to teach prospective elementary teachers to understand the sound-symbol relationships of the English language that will lead to the attainment of independence in reading. The basics of phonemic blending, as well as the basics of decoding written words, is presented. Philosophies and strategies for teaching the skills of phonics are included. Students observe in local schools. Prerequisite: EDU110. Two hours.
