A study of the theoretical aspects of physical chemistry. Consideration is given to the laws of thermodynamics as they apply to energy, entropy and free energy changes, kinetic theory, statistical mechanics, solid, liquid and gas states, changes of state, interfaces, surfaces, reaction kinetics, and electrochemistry. Three class periods, two three-hour laboratory periods each week. Prerequisites: CHM111, 112, 211 & 315 or equivalent. Three hours.
