Description:

Introduction to the metabolic pathways used for energy production and for the synthesis and degradation of the building blocks of living organisms. The pathways are presented individually, then integrated to show the balance between pathways; for example, the products generated by one pathway that are necessary for a second pathway. The effi ciency of chemical synthesis in biological organisms is discussed. Finally, the metabolic basis of selected diseases is examined.
