Includes consideration of monetary theory, the development and current characteristics of monetary institutions in the American economy and the use of the tools of monetary analysis to evaluate alternative monetary policies. Concludes with an evaluation of the neo-Keynesian and Monetarist positions. Required course for economics majors; part of the economics concentration and minor; and may also be taken as an elective.
