The second course in a two-quarter sequence that approaches the Great Lake Ecosystem using the interrelated, interdisciplinary principles of environmental science. Throughout the sequence, the focus will be on sustainability as the foundation for environmental problem solving in the Great Lakes. The sequence will assess environmental issues involving the Great Lakes in the context of our local community, as well as in regional and global contexts. Within the matrix of scientific principles, students will consider the importance of government action, political science theory, public policy, ethics, economics, sociology, history, and engineering. The course will include a combination of classroom and field activities. Part of the environmental studies concentration and minor; the science, technology, and environmental studies minor; and may also be taken as an elective.
