A historical and cultural survey of collaboration between the arts of music and theater, focusing on a selection of significant creative products that combine music and drama. Included are works by Shakespeare, Monteverdi, Moliere, Mozart-DaPointe, John Gay, Beethoven-Goethe, Wagner, Puccini, Brecht-Weill, and Berstein, spanning the genres of Renaissance tragedy and comedy, opera serial, opera buffa, ballad opera, incidental music romantic drama, Italian opera, music drama, epic theater, cabaret, vaudeville, and musical comedy. Part of the music concentration and minor and the theater arts concentration and minor. It may also be taken as an elective. Class 4, Credit 4 (offered annually)
