This course is the fi rst in a series of courses on the writing of scripts for theatrical and nontheatrical fi lms and television. This course introduces students to the forms and techniques of writing for dramatic media, including a brief introduction to writing for experimental and documentary fi lms. Throughout the course, students keep a creative journal of ideas and characters to be used in story development. Students are responsible for writing a short fi lm or television script of their own choosing and for completing several brief written exercises in areas such as personal storytelling, character development, dialogue, and plot.
