This course discusses basic goals, principles and techniques of integrated optical devices and systems, and explains how the various optoelectronic devices of an integrated optical system operate and how they are integrated into a system. Topics include optical waveguides, optical couplers, microoptical resonators, plasmonics, photonic crystals, modulators, introduction to semiconductor lasers and optical detectors, optical signal processing systems, design tools, fabrication techniques, and the applications of optical integrated circuits.
