As interest in wireless technology is booming, wireless networks are enjoying very fast growth. This course covers fundamental techniques in design and operation of fi rst, second, and third generation wireless networks: cellular systems, medium access techniques, radio propagation models, error control techniques, handoff, power control, common air protocols (AMPS, IS-95, IS-136, GSM, GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA, cdma2000, etc), radio resource and network management. As an example for the third generation air interfaces, wireless Internet and sensor networks are discussed in detail since it is expected to have a large impact on future wireless networks.
