4050-515 - Introduction to Routing and Switching

Institution:
Rochester Institute of Technology
Subject:
Description:
This is a laboratory-based course that focuses on the standards andd technologies used to establish internetwork structures that will support a TCP/ IP data stream for higher level services to operate over. It is primarily concerned with the network layer and below. Although the course focuses on the TCP/IP protocol suite and the Ethernet LAN protocol other protocols may be studied. Students will use their knowledge of how to connect computers (PCs) in a LAN and learn how to connect separate networks together to form an internetwork. Bridge and switching concepts are investigated (such as the resolution of bridging loops through the appropriate algorithms). Routed and routing protocols and algorithms are studied and implemented.
