Institution:
Rochester Institute of Technology
Subject:
Description:
The course examines contemporary theories of consumer behavior and household decision making that explain consumer-driven societies that have led to excessive spending, debt, and an inability of many families to achieve personal fi nancial goals. An evaluation of both individual and global spending and saving patterns is used to understand effective strategies to promote personal fi nancial well being. The consequences of poor fi nancial decisions and their impact on the family are discussed, including health, marriage, career opportunities, and other current issues. The purpose of the course is not to provide a set of tools to make fi nancial decisions, but rather an understanding of the basic economics of consumerism and its consequences, and to give you insights that well help you develop effective fi nancial plans for yourself and to advise others.
