This course examines the development and expansion of liturgy and worship from its roots in the Jewish tradition into the early Christian Church and the Roman Catholic tradition. The Reformation and its influence on various Protestant liturgies will form a major part of the semester's work. Aspects of transcendence, ritual, theological underpinnings are examined so as to reveal the original intent of theologians and others as they attempted to perfect the art of worship and refresh the spirits of the Christian believer.
