3 hours; 3 credits An exploration of the contemporary Italian-speaking community in the United States from 1945 to the present with particular attention to developing an understanding of the concepts of cultural identity. Discussions and frequent writing assignments using a variety of approaches and supplementary materials from the print, broadcast, and electronic media. Field trips to museums and cultural events. May be taken concurrently with or after Italian 4.8, 11.1, or 11.12W. (Not open to students who have completed Italian 50.) Prerequisite: Italian 4 or 4.8 or permission of the chairperson.
