4 hours; 4 credits Introduction to numerical analysis using high-speed computers. Fixed-point and floating-point arithmetic; analysis of errors; numerical solution of algebraic and transcendental equations and systems of linear equations. Interpolation and approximation. Numerical differentiation and integration. Solution of ordinary differential equations. (Not open to students who are enrolled in or have completed Mathematics 37.) Prerequisite: Mathematics 10.1; and Mathematics 5.10 or 5.20 or 4.3 or 4.31; and one of the following: Computer and Information Science 1.10, 1.20, 1.5, the ability to use a scientific programming language.
