3 hours; 3 credits This course will examine the international relations of the Western Hemisphere through a comparative approach from 1750 to the present. This course will focus on the debates and ramifications of U.S. policy toward the hemisphere; the responses of the Latin American countries-and Canada -to the changing international environment; the role of international organizations in hemispheric affairs; and the effect of movements or issues that crossed national boundaries. (This course is not open to students who have completed History 51.4.)
