4 hours; 3 credits Investigation of significant films derived from literature through comparison of genres. Defining film as an art form in its relation to a particular literary source. Screening of such works as Ford's The Grapes of Wrath ,Welles' s The Trial, Bresson's Diary of a Country Priest, Visconti' s The Stranger, Lean's Great Expectations, Truffaut' s Shoot the Piano Player, Olivier's Henry V, and Kurosawa' s Throne of Blood.Prerequisite or corequisite: Film 1 or permission of the chairperson.
