3 hours; 3 credits This course studies the origins and usage of contemporary typography through lectures and creative assignments in word/image studies. The history of type is reviewed, with emphasis on important period styles, such as Dada, De Stijl, and the Bauhaus, as well as their theoretical context and relation to fine art. Macintosh computers are used. Prerequisites: ENG 2100 and ART 2050.
