An examination of reading and language arts in the total communication process. Emphasisis on the study of developmental literacy. Strategies to meet individual needs in a balanced elementaryliteracy program are presented. Techniques of informal assessment and lesson planning are developed. Amodel for instructional modification for students with language and learning disabilities is presented andapplied. The roles, responsibilities and skills for the delivery of systematic, in-depth literacy practices forstudents with special needs and those at risk for reading failure will be addressed. Three lecture hours.
