The history of modern Italy from its unification in the nineteenth century to thepresent day. Focus will be placed on the socio-economic, political, and cultural developments that have impactedcontemporary Italian politics and society. Major themes include the Risorgimento; the Liberal Regime; theSouthern Question; Fascism and the Second World War; the economic miracle and consumer culture; post-warpolitics and corruption; as well as issues of identity and culture in Italy today.
