Gilbert Through readings from classical Jewish texts (e.g., Bible, Talmud, Midrash, philosophy, mysticism), popular literature (e.g., memoirs, short stories), and contemporary scholarship, the course explores the history of Jews and Jewish communities, major textual and intellectual traditions that have defined Jewish life, and the various constructions of Jewish identity articulated through its texts, beliefs, and practices.
