Topics include: the reactions and properties of conjugated unsaturated compounds and aromatic compounds; the derivatives of benzene; aldehydes and ketones; and carboxylic acids and their derivatives - dicarbonyl compounds, amines, phenols, and aryl halides. Also the properties and mechanisms of electrophilic aromatic substitutions, and nucleophilic additions and substitutions involving carbonyl and acyl compounds are discussed. Three hours lecture. Prerequisites: CHM 26202 and CHM 26303. Spring.
