The chemistry and quantitative aspects of environmentally important chemical cycles will be studied. Cycles within the atmospheric, hydrospheric, and lithospheric segments of the environment will be considered, such as ozone formation/destruction, photochemical smog, acid rain, the greenhouse effect, dissolved metals, dissolved mutrients, sewage treatment, and soil structure. This course will emphasize the fundamental chemical principles that govern environmental processes. Three hours lecture. Prerequisites: CHM 28303. On Demand.
