Analyzes the ways in which race and gender discrimination result in differences in opportunities and outcomes in society. Begins with a historical overview of the origins of modern racism and patriarchy, and their relation to the rise and development of capitalism. Discursive and nondiscursive factors are investigated. Alternative theoretical approaches to understanding the intersections of race, class, and gender are evaluated.
