Among the topics that will be considered in this course are the development of the pagoda and other temple architecture (Buddhist, Confucian, Taoist and Shinto). Palace and domestic architecture of both countries and the castle architecture of Japan as well as the literati and Zen gardens unique to China and Japan will all be included. Prerequisite: ART 319 or permission of instructor. 3 hrs
