The visual arts in Italy from the beginnings of the High Renaissance in the late 15th century through the Late Renaissance and the developing phenomenon of Mannerism. The effect of religious, political and economic developments will be discussed as well as problems of patronage, artistic theory and the role of art in humanist circles.
