Through ethnographies about homelessness, food deprivation, and unemployment, examines the institutions through which poverty is recognized, the systems of morality shaping debates about need and appropriate behavior, and the effects of community responses to poverty. Prerequisite(s): satisfaction of the Entry Level Writing and Composition requirements; courses 1, 2, and 3. Enrollment restricted to senior anthropology majors. Enrollment limited to 20.
