Lecture/discussion-4 hours. Prerequisite: one course in art history, or upper division standing and a major or minor in the arts or humanities recommended. Social, cultural, aesthetic, and theoretical developments for artists and their audiences in the context of such larger issues as McCarthyism, the New Left, free love, feminism, Reaganomics, globalization, etc., and a critical-theoretical inquiry into questions of neoavantgardism, postmodernism, and postmodernity.
