This course emphasizes how to accurately use the metric, avoirdupois, household and apothecary systems. Skills in accurately counting and measuring and converting among measurement systems are covered. The student is taught to perform mathematical steps accurately using Roman numerals, Arabic numerals, fractions, apothecary symbols and decimals. Conversion of weights and measures, direct ratio and proportion, reducing and enlarging formulas along with specific gravity, percent strength, weight-in-volume, and weight-in-weight, volume in volume, ratio, strength calculations, and dilution and concentration formulas are included. This course includes a laboratory component.
