Students will learn how to use basic concepts in nutrition to make healthy food choices and gain a better understanding of how good nutrition and regular physical activity lead to a healthy lifestyle. In addition to learning about portion control, students will create reduced-calorie dishes that are lower in fat, sodium and sugar and are appropriate for people with conditions that require dietary restrictions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease. Students will review menus and recipes and revise them to meet guidelines set forth by American Dietetic Association, American Diabetes Association and American Heart Association. This is a kitchen lab class.
