Emphasis is on the changing nature of the empire, its role in Britain's rise and fall as a world power, the influence of empire on Britain' s political, economic, and cultural development, and the imperial impact o n Britain? ? colonies and possessions. Attention is also directed at the many enemies that the empire created, both in Britain and in the colonies. The course concludes by examining aspects of post-colonialism in Britain and its former possessions
