Fall. Credits: 4. Degree Requirements: Fine Arts. An examination of the visual arts in Europe during the period normally known as the Middle Ages, ca. 313-1348. Attention will also focus on the art emanating from the Byzantine east. Art works discussed will include both secular and religious objects, and topics covered will include issues of aesthetics, iconography, style, functionality, and spirituality. (Course offered in alternate years; scheduled for 2008-2009.)
