Examines the political and social history of the United States from the Missouri debate to the ratification of the Kansas-Nebraska Act. A comprehensive assessment of the market revolution which altered American life, economic expansion, advancement of slavery, First Nation removal, religion and reform, altering positions of women, political movements connected with "Jacksonian democracy," the impact of abolitionism, and the westward movement of entire peoples.
