How accurate have these optimistic characterizations turned out to be A?er an introduction to theories of liberal democracy and to the new discipline of "transitology" we will look at how states andleaders have applied such liberal-democratic ideas in Eastern Europe and the former USSR (with comparative examples from Africa and South America), and with what success.
