This course covers the central philosophical positions and topics in philosophy of science from mid-twentieth century until the present day. It begins with the positivist view current at mid-century, covers the move to pragmatism of the 1960s and 1970s and looks at sociological and historical attitudes since then. It asks to what degree it is possible for science to investigate a value-independent reality in the light of these developments. Meets Humanities I-B requirement S.
