(Same as Gender Studies 212) Is knowledge gendered Is science objective What does it mean to make such claims, and how does one justify them In this course, we will investigate how gender roles, gender identity, and ideas about gender influence the construction of knowledge.We will look at three competing views about these influences - in particular, empiricism, standpoint theory, and postmodernism - in the context of empirical research in the social sciences and biology. We will consider what it means to do research as a feminist and what kind of cognitive authority women hold in the creation of knowledge. Meets Humanities I-B requirement C.
