Description:

This survey of seventeenth- and eighteenthcentury art in Italy and Spain treats the major stylistic and thematic developments in painting, sculpture, and, to a lesser extent, architecture. Special emphasis is given to the vivid naturalism of Caravaggio and Velazquez, the refined classicism of the Carracci, and the impassioned manner of Bernini. Attention is also given to the different cultural contexts in which the works of art were first created and are now interpreted. Meets Humanities I-A requirement J.
