An examination of the major ideas of biochemistry from the point of view of the chemical sciences rather than the life sciences. Structures of important biomolecules. The role of energetics and reaction dynamics in biochemical processes. Major metabolic pathways are considered, including those of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids. This course is not intended for Biochemistry majors, who must complete Biochemistry 311f and 314s. First priority will be given to sophmores and juniors. Meets Science and Math II-C requirement M.
