Prerequisites: MSHS 622 and MSHS 680 This course is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of exercise biochemistry. Reading and discussion of current topics in exercise biochemistry related to control mechanisms, methods used in research to assess biochemical adaptations, mechanisms regulating carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism; adaptations with exercise training; influence of acute and chronic exercise on energy metabolism, insulin signaling & action; skeletal muscle lactate utilization and transporters, and the relationship between metabolism and fatigue.
