A study of the history and current philosophy and practice of the juvenile justice system, and the social, economic and political forces which have brought it to its present state. Students will examine the current levels and trends of juvenile delinquency and violence along with juvenile justice responses to them. Current issues such as transfer of juveniles to adult court, PINS law, and coverage of New York State juvenile justice. Prerequisite: SOC 100 or SOC 136 3 hours a week, 1 semester, 3 credits.
