An introduction to structure, bonding, and the chemical properties of organic compounds. Addition, substitution and elimination reaction mechanisms are emphasized by investigating the chemistry of alkenes, alkynes and alkyl halides. The laboratory will emphasize basic organic techniques including distillation, extraction, chromatography and spectroscopy. Prerequisite: Minimum grade of C in Chemistry 150, 151 4 hours lecture, 4 hours laboratory a week, 1 semester, 5 credits. Fall Lab fee-$60
