Description:
Students will perform regularly as soloists and/or small ensembles. Each performance will be followed by a review and critique. A support- ive atmosphere will provide performers with feedback from the instruc- tor and classmates to build performing skills. Students will have the opportunity to make critical remarks and learn to refine the process of musical criticism and articulation. Music reviews from music journals and newspapers will be studied and compared to student remarks. Videos of live professional performers will be critiqued and compared to observations from class performances and discussions. Performances will take place during a recital/concert and additional public performanc- es during the semester if/when appropriate. Prior ability to sing or play an instrument is a requirement for this course. 3 hours a week, 1 semester, 3 credits. Offered when there is suffi- cient student demand.
