A study of the school from the historical, sociological, educational and philosophical perspectives. The course will explore legislation as it relates to rights and responsibilities of teachers, students, parents, com- munity members and school administrators. The course is designed to introduce the concepts of instructional planning, motivation, classroom management, as well as the school's response to AIDS, drug/alcohol abuse, child abuse and abduction, and the effect of culture, poverty and socio-economic level on learning. Skills in the use of technology as it relates to classroom instruction and planning will be addressed. 30 hours of guided fieldwork observation, Grades 1-6 3 lecture hours, 1 semester, 3 credits.
