1 to 3 hours. Prerequisite: one course in general area to be studied; permission of instructor and department. May be repeated; maximum credit six hours. Contracted independent study for topic not currently offered in regularly scheduled courses. Independent study may include library and/or laboratory research and field projects. (F, Sp, Su) The prerequisite for 4000-level courses is one 3000-level course or the equivalent. 4133 Historians: Livy, Tacitus, Caesar, Sallust. May be repeated with change of subject matter; maximum credit nine hours. Introductory course in Roman history. Readings chosen to present memorable persons and episodes in the ascendancy of the Republic, the critical issues of the Civil Wars, and the social and political decadence of the Early Empire.
