Prerequisite: graduate standing in the School of Art and Art History or permission of the instructor. This course focuses on the study of the trans-Mississippi west as seen through the eyes of photographers from the early 19th century up to the present. The purpose of this course will primarily be to study Euro-American photographic conventions, traditions, and styles and how they have been employed in defining American western history, culture and native peoples as fact, artistic motif and myth. No student may earn credit for both 4753 and 5753. (Irreg.)
