Prerequisite: junior standing or permission of instructor. Focuses on the study of the Trans-Mississippi West, as seen through the eyes of artists and photographers from the early 19th century until today. A variety of media will be discussed, including paintings, prints, photography, and sculpture. The purpose of the course will be primarily to study Euro-American artistic conventions/tradition and how they have been employed in defining western history, culture, and native peoples as fact, fiction, and myth.
