This course prepares candidates to teach the processes of reading/literacy across content areas to all students. Emphasis is given to research-based approaches to teaching content area reading and learning with texts; strategy instruction in diverse classrooms; current formal and authentic assessment procedures; professional practices; and the connections among texts, content learning, and the reading and writing/language processes. Lectures, group activities, and field experiences are integral parts of the course, which will be taught both on the university campus and within the public school setting. Fall, Spring, Summer.
