For English majors and minors to satisfy upper-division figure and genre requirements. The course can be taken in series with Shakespeare II. It includes historical, linguistic, and critical study of representative comedies, tragedies, and history plays. The course examines a wide variety of approaches to Shakespeare's texts including performative analysis, historical interpretations, psychological and cultural readings of the plays.
